چکیده

The self-assembled rosette nanotubes (RNT) are organic nanomaterials generated from the selfassembly of a bicyclic guanine-cytosine (GC motif) base. One of the advantages of these nanomaterials is the ability to tailor their function and properties by synthetically modifying the GC motif. Therefore, understanding the detailed supramolecular structure and arrangement of the RNTs with different functional groups is important. The physical characterization of RNTs using microscopy can be challenging because of their nanosclae dimensions (ca. 3-8 nm in diameter) and their sensitivity to physical and mechanical damage by standard microscopy techniques. Consequently, proper sample preparation and optimized imaging conditions are critical for successful characterization using microscopy techniques.

Current-Voltage Characteristics of Self-Assembled Monolayers by Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

This paper presents a comparison of the theoretical and experimental current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of a self-assembled monolayer of a, a0-xylyl dithiol molecules on a gold substrate measured with a scanning tunneling microscope probe. Good quantitative agreement is obtained with the tip-molecule distance as the only “fitting parameter.” Several other thiol-coupled molecules that we have...

Mesoscopic self-organization of a self-assembled supramolecular rectangle on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite and Au(111) surfaces.

A self-assembled supramolecular metallacyclic rectangle was investigated with scanning tunneling microscopy on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite and Au(111) surfaces. The rectangles spontaneously adsorb on both surfaces and self-organize into well ordered adlayers. On highly oriented pyrolytic graphite, the long edge of the rectangle stands on the surface, forming a 2D molecular network. In co...

Unconventional nanotubes self-assembled in alumina channels: morphology and surface potential of isolated nanostructures at surfaces.

Synthetic nanographenes have been self-assembled from solution on the surface of nanometric channels of an alumina membrane template. By controlling the interplay between intermolecular and interfacial interactions, the molecules have been adsorbed either 'face-on' or 'edge-on' on the pore's surfaces, leading to the formation of columnar stacks in the latter case. Upon thermal treatment at high...

Conductive Scanning Force Microscopy on Linear-chain Organic Films

The electrical properties of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of organic molecules on metal surfaces have gained particular interest due to their potential applications in nanometer-scaled electronics systems [1]. Understanding the transport mechanism through these thin molecular films as well as the dependence of the conductivity on the molecular length and structure, the applied load and the ...

Self-assembled monolayers on Pt(111): molecular packing structure and strain effects observed by scanning tunneling microscopy.

Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of octanethiol and benzeneethanethiol were deposited on clean Pt(111) surfaces in ultrahigh vacuum (UHV). Highly resolved images of these SAMs produced by an in situ scanning tunneling microscope (STM) showed that both systems organize into a super-structure mosaic of domains of locally ordered, closely packed molecules. Analysis of the STM images indicated a (s...
